March, Sleep Awareness, Women and Cannabis

March is National Sleep Awareness Month, and March 11-17, 2018 is Sleep Awareness Week, so it is fitting that we focus on sleep issues and how cannabis can help.

Sleep issues can happen for a variety of reasons including stress, poor fitness and diet habits, time shifts such as Daylight Saving Time and crossing time zones, and environmental conditions including too much light, noise, or electronics in the bedroom.

Many women experience sleep disruption because of hormonal changes, particularly during PMS, peri-menopause, and menopause.

Lack of sleep is considered a “public health epidemic” according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and can lead to increased susceptibility to mental, physical and health problems. Sleep deprivation is linked to depression, obesity, high blood pressure and even cancer. Scientists have found a link between early mortality and lack of sleep. Translation: Not getting enough sleep could be killing you!

This month, women will be talking in cities across the country about how cannabis can promote relaxation and sleep. Some of the things we’ll discuss include:

  • The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) and how cannabis can bring it into balance.
  • Cannabinoids that promote a more restful sleep.
  • How terpenes in cannabis play into the sleep equation.
  • Other natural remedies that pair well with cannabis to promote sleep.
  • The best forms of consumption to aid in a good night’s rest.
  • Cannabis strains that promote sleep and ones to avoid.

As you can see, we’ve got a lot to talk about!
